How about a yacht?

Image
A free week on a yacht?  No, thank you. I had applied for a house sit, on a yacht in Florida.  Another sitter was selected.  Yesterday I received an email, saying that the sitter couldn't do it after all and would I be interested?  I would have had to end my current house sit a couple of days early, which I knew could work out since I wasn't taking care of any animals this time (the cats went along with their parents to their cabin). But, I said no. Once I got past the glorious thought of having a yacht all to myself, I thought about the fact that I don't know the first thing about boats.  It would just be me, living in luxury for a week, which sounds fantastic, but what if I heard a strange noise?  I wouldn't know if it was routine, or something serious.  I decided not to take responsibility for something I know nothing about.   Who is this new, sensible person I'm becoming?

Florida

Tomorrow I fly to Fort Lauderdale for a one month house-sit.  It's a home I've been to many times and I'm quite comfortable there.  I find many more like minded people in Boulder, but there is one thing that's quite interesting to me.  I can have a discussion on religion, or vaccines, with the woman I house-sit for and be in complete disagreement, but we manage to do it without rage.  It's really satisfying to try to understand someone's viewpoint, feel completely opposite, and still walk away friends.  I hope someday she'll come around to my way of thinking, but I know she is hoping I'll change, too. Here is my horoscope for today from Sally Brompton.  "The sooner you accept that you will never reach a point in your life where everything is perfect the sooner you will start enjoying yourself again. Why try to be some impossibly great human being when you can just be yourself? That’s good enough."

House-sitting

I signed up on a website called trustedhouseitters.com.  It cost more than other websites (currently $129 per year), but for nearly 4 years I've had free housing.  It's worth a look, to see all the house-sits available worldwide.  If you decide to join and want to use my code, it is RAF126955.  It will give you a discount (and give me two free months membership). The house I'm currently in is in a lovely neighborhood in Boulder, Colorado.  I don't think you could get a house in this neighborhood for under a million dollars.  It's a big house, furnished beautifully.  So, I do feel I'm living luxuriously.  I'll be here for 5 1/2 weeks.  If I was paying to stay in this home, it would cost thousands. However, luxurious doesn't always mean glamorous.  There's a big vegetable garden in the back, which does take a bit of work (there is someone who helps), but also means free vegetables for me.  Yesterday I sent the host a picture of a pile of poop in the ba

I'm a senior citizen, a Nomad.   And, I love the way I live!  I go where I want and do what I want.  My time is my own.  People have said to me, "you're so lucky."  It's not luck.  I made this happen.  I have few possessions, and my overhead is extremely low.  I have no home, no car, no payments.  My income is limited, but I live very, very well, thanks to house-sitting.   I get asked the same questions over and over wherever I go.  People don't seem to get how I can do this, so I decided to create this blog.
